Booking a Wedding Photographer: What You Actually Need to Know
If you’ve never booked a wedding photographer before, it can feel a bit unclear.
What do you actually need to do? What should you have planned? Are you meant to know exactly what you want?
The reality is, you don’t need to have it all figured out.
Most couples I work with haven’t done this before. You’re not expected to know how everything works, and you definitely don’t need a full plan before getting in touch.

What you actually need before you enquire
At this stage, all you really need is:
• your wedding date
• your venue (or a rough idea)
• and a feel for the kind of photos you like
That’s it. You don’t need a timeline, a shot list, or a detailed plan. That all comes later, and I’ll help you with it.
Getting in touch
Most people start by sending a quick message to check availability.
From there, we can either have a relaxed chat or just keep things over email if you prefer.
There’s no pressure either way, it’s just about making sure everything feels right.
If you already know you’d like to go ahead, I can send the booking details straight over.
Booking your wedding date
When you’re ready to book, I’ll send over a short booking questionnaire and an agreement.
Once that’s filled in and the booking fee is paid, your date is secured. Nice and straightforward.
Between booking and the wedding
You don’t need to keep checking in or updating me constantly.
As the wedding gets closer, I’ll send over a pre-wedding questionnaire to gather all the final details like timings, group photos, and anything important you want me to know.
Until then, you can just get on with planning your day.
What it's like on the day
You don’t need to worry about posing or performing for the camera. Most of the day is captured naturally as it happens, without you really noticing it.
I’ll step in when needed, like for group photos or a few relaxed portraits, but nothing will feel forced.
If you’re a bit camera shy, that’s completely normal. Almost everyone says that beforehand, and it’s never an issue once the day gets going.
What I don't expect from you
You don’t need to:
• know how to pose
• have a detailed photo plan
• be comfortable in front of the camera
• or have done anything like this before
That’s my job to guide where needed and keep things feeling easy.
