How Wedding Photography Works and What to Expect

Before the Big Day: Our Pre-Wedding Chat

It’s entirely up to you how we approach this part. We can meet up beforehand, have a quick chat on the phone, send a couple of emails, or if you’d prefer, we can simply touch base on the day itself. No pressure from me—I’m here to work around whatever feels the most comfortable for you.

Your Wedding, Your Way

Now that we’re officially in this together, I want to hear all about your vision for the day. Whether you’ve already nailed down every detail or are still figuring things out, I’m here to help however I can.

Couple Portraits: It’s More Than Posing

If you've chosen a pre-wedding shoot, then this will take place at a time that's suitable for you - usually around 6 weeks before the wedding, but this can be anytime you wish - as long as I'm available. This can be as relaxed or posed as you want it to be, but one thing this isn’t about is stiff, awkward poses—it's about capturing the real essence of the two of you. We'll take our time to create relaxed, natural moments that reflect your personality and your love for one another. I aim to find the real you during this shoot, and it will be all about looking at each other and interacting with the environment, not so much the camera - unless of course, you want to. This will be a great opportunity for us to get to know each other so that when your wedding day comes, you will have a good idea of what to expect.

Four Weeks Out: Getting Into the Details

As we hit the four-week mark before your big day, I’ll send you an email questionnaire where you can finalise all the details. This is where we fine-tune everything to ensure your wedding day runs smoothly. You’ll also get a chance to send me your VIP list for formal photos if you have one—so I won’t miss any of the important people you want captured in your album.

The Big Day: Capturing the Magic

On the day itself, I’ll be there, camera in hand, capturing every laugh, every tear, every small detail, and those magical couple moments. I tend to talk with guests and blend in so that I can get the very best photos. Great wedding photography isn’t just about taking pictures—it’s about paying attention. Knowing when to step in, when to hang back, and when something small is actually something huge. Weddings can be a marathon so if you spot me grabbing a quick sip of water, it’s just me taking a breather after capturing everything the day has to offer.

Keeping Your Photos Safe

Your memories are in good hands. My cameras are equipped with dual memory cards, so everything is safely backed up as we go. Once I'm back at the office, your images are securely stored across multiple hard drives, and uploaded to the cloud, ensuring your memories are always safe, no matter what.

Editing: Perfecting Your Story

Editing isn’t just about cropping and tweaking—it’s about turning your wedding day into a masterpiece. After I pick out the best shots, I’ll work my magic on the colours, adjust the lighting, and add the finishing touches to make sure your photos look nothing short of spectacular. As a rule of thumb, I’ll remove anything that isn’t permanent—so if you happened to have a bright red spot pop up on your wedding day, don’t worry, it’s gone! I also take care of any distractions like fire exit signs and extinguishers—because let’s face it, no one wants those in their wedding photos. But, if you had an interesting moment on the dancefloor, well… those might stick around. Consider them my little piece of blackmail for later!

You’ll see me snapping away like a paparazzo, but don’t worry—you won’t get all those shots. During editing, I sort through and ditch the blurry ones, the photos where you’re mid-blink, or anything that might make you cringe later. If you’ve got a photo where you’re doing your best impression of a deer caught in headlights, it’s not making the final cut. So please, don’t ask for those—asking for behind-the-scenes bloopers is like requesting outtakes from a movie. I promise, you’ll get only the best shots to remember your day. As for those unforgettable dancefloor moments, well, I might just keep a few... just in case I need some fun material down the road!

Your Online Gallery: A Space for Your Story

Once the editing is all wrapped up, you’ll have your very own online gallery where you can relive your special day and easily share your photos with friends and family. It’s also the one-stop shop for ordering prints and albums—all in one place, how handy is that? As a little thank you for choosing me as your photographer, you’ll get a 20% discount code to share with your loved ones. But don’t wait too long to use it—the code lasts for a month, so no procrastinating!

Now, I’ll be honest—my prints might be a tiny bit more expensive than those cheaper suppliers, but here’s why: they’re guaranteed to last over 100 years without fading, unlike the budget versions that use poor-quality inks and end up over-sharpening your photos (not a look you want, trust me). When you buy prints from me, you’re getting the best of the best, and your photos will look just how I intended—perfectly!

The Blog: Sharing Your Wedding with the World

If you’re happy with it, chances are I’d love to feature a selection of your wedding photos on my blog. It’s a fantastic way to relive your big day and share those beautiful moments with the world. After all, your wedding is a story worth telling, and what better way to keep those memories alive than by letting friends, family, and even the wider world enjoy them on social media?

Now, just to manage expectations—I don’t feature every wedding, as not every day is quite blog-worthy (we’ve all had those “oops” moments on the dancefloor!). But if your day has that extra sparkle and something truly special, I’ll absolutely be thrilled to write up a post about it. I’ll capture the magic, from the sweet little details to the unforgettable moments, and share your love story with everyone in a way that’s as unique as your wedding day. After all, who doesn’t want a bit of wedding-day fame?

Feedback: Your Thoughts Matter

At some point, I’ll reach out to check in and see how everything went—don’t worry, I won’t be stalking you! But seriously, your feedback means the world to me. It’s not just about hearing how much you loved your photos (though I’m always happy to hear that!), but it also helps me continually improve my services and make sure I’m delivering the best experience for all my couples.

Plus, it gives future couples an honest look at what to expect when working with me. I like to think of it as a little behind-the-scenes peek, minus the bloopers.

Keeping in Touch: Your Journey Doesn't End Here

Your wedding photos aren’t just files on a screen—they’re memories that will fill your home, bring smiles on rainy days, and maybe even make an appearance at future family gatherings (yes, even those dancefloor moments!). So, as you frame them, share them, and relive the magic, I’d love to hear how they’re becoming part of your life.

Stay connected, keep me posted, and don’t be a stranger! Whether you need advice on prints, have a question, or just fancy a chat about how your wedding cake tasted even better the next day, I’m always happy to hear from you. After all, your story doesn’t end with ‘I do’—it’s only just getting started!
