There's nothing I love more than being a Lake District Elopement Photographer. Eloping has become an increasingly popular option for couples who are looking to tie the knot, and it's easy to see why. Here are just a few of the many reasons why you may wish to consider eloping:

Intimacy and personalisation

Without a doubt, one of the biggest advantages of eloping is being able to plan a more intimate and personal ceremony. When you don't have the pressure of a large wedding and hundreds of guests to think about, you can focus on what truly matters: your love and commitment to each other. From the location and decor to the vows and music, every aspect of your ceremony can be customised and tailored to exactly the way you want it to be.

Time and cost savings

If you're planning a big wedding, it can take up a lot of your time, sometimes months and in some cases, years. From selecting the perfect venue, and sifting through suppliers on various websites to sending out invitations and organising the logistics, the list of tasks can seem never-ending. Eloping not only allows you to skip the long drawn-out planning process but it's also much lighter on your finances which leaves room for that house deposit, honeymoon or other big expense that's certain to arise in this chapter of your lives together. Money can be saved on catering, flowers, rental fees, food, wedding favours etc, and if you want to, you can even save on the cost of a wedding dress and tuxedo.

Being Flexible with Location

Eloping opens doors for you when it comes to personalising your ceremony and where it's going to be. Whether it's a beach in Scotland or a fell top here in the Lake District, you can choose a location that is meaningful to you both. This can be especially appealing if you want to get married somewhere unique or romantic, or if you simply want to avoid the stress of planning a wedding in your hometown. I've photographed elopements in woodlands, by private tarns and lakes, in fields and marquees, up mountains and more! As long as you can find a celebrant who's willing to help, you can say your vows wherever you wish.

Managing the Guest List

This has got to be the number one reason why people tend to elope. With a smaller ceremony, you will have more control over your guest list and be able to choose who you wish to invite. You may find that this is just your closest friends and family, or you may even choose to opt for a ceremony with just the two of you. This can be especially appealing if you want to keep your wedding small and intimate, or if you have family or friends that don't get on and would make a larger wedding more difficult. Planning an elopement means that you no longer have to invite someone who you don't want to, to your special day.

Adventure

Eloping offers the opportunity for a spontaneous and adventurous wedding experience which quite often from a photography perspective, provides the chance to really capture some amazing photos of just the two of you and/or your guests. You can set off on an impromptu trip and tie the knot in a place you've always wanted to or even visit or hike halfway up a lake district fell - whatever you choose to do, it allows for a unique and unforgettable wedding experience. This can be especially appealing if you are looking for something different from the traditional wedding, or if you simply want to start your marriage with a special adventure together. When you plan an elopement wedding, your elopement photography can be as simple or as adventurous as you want it to be - for me, the more adventurous the better!

Of course, eloping isn't for everyone, and it's important that you carefully consider your options before making the decision to do so. If you are however looking for a more intimate, personalised, and spontaneous wedding experience, then it's possible that eloping could be the perfect choice for you.
