There are lots of beautiful places to get married in the Lake District, but The Inn on the Lake is definitely one of my favourites to photograph. Set right on the shores of Ullswater, it gives you stunning lake views, beautiful gardens, easy lakeside access, and a backdrop of fells that works brilliantly in photographs.
Whatever the season, there are loads of good options for photos here. The gardens work beautifully for relaxed portraits, the jetty is perfect for lakeside shots, and the reflection pool can look amazing in the right conditions. If the weather turns, there are also plenty of sheltered spots and indoor options, so you’re not relying on one area. It’s exactly the kind of setting I enjoy working in as a Lake District wedding photographer.

Why Couples Choose Inn on the Lake
Couples tend to love The Inn on the Lake because it gives you a bit of everything without needing to go anywhere else:
- Lakeside gazebo and jetty – ideal for ceremonies and couple portraits
- Gardens and terrace – perfect for group photos, confetti, and relaxed portraits
- Strong indoor options – so you’re covered if the weather turns
- Works well in every season – from summer light to autumn colour and winter atmosphere
- Everything is close together – which keeps the day flowing naturally
One of the best things about this venue is how easy it is to get a real mix of photos without dragging you away from your guests for too long.
Photographing Weddings at Inn on the Lake
My approach here as a wedding photographer in the Lake District is natural and unobtrusive. Most of the day I’m just documenting what’s happening, then stepping in with a bit of direction when needed. Typical shots include:
- Couple portraits by Ullswater
- Natural coverage of guests arriving and the atmosphere through the day
- Outdoor ceremonies and confetti moments where the setting really comes into its own
- Relaxed portraits in the gardens, by the jetty, and around the grounds
- Candid moments with family and friends throughout the day
It gives you plenty of variety without needing to force anything, whatever the weather is doing.

Planning Your Inn on the Lake Wedding
The Inn on the Lake is a really flexible venue, which makes it easy to plan a day that flows well. A few things are worth thinking about from a photography point of view:
- Where you have your ceremony affects the light and the overall look of your photos.
- If the weather is good, it’s worth leaving a bit of time later in the day for lakeside portraits.
- Everything is close together, so you don’t need to disappear for long to get great photos.
- Each season gives the venue a different feel, so it’s worth leaning into that.
- I’ll help shape the timeline so the photography fits around your day naturally.
Planning things around the space and the light helps keep the day relaxed and makes a big difference to how your photos come out.
